Gemological Science Services

I founded the GSS Gemological Laboratory (Gemological Science Services) in 2020 with a clear vision: to bring the science of gemology closer to the Greek market — from private individuals to professional jewellers, investors and collectors.

We operate in the field of jewellery and precious stones, offering jewellery and gemstone evaluation, the issuing of gemological reports, as well as specialised consultancy for purchasing precious stones as an investment.

I am Georgios Charanas, founder of GSS, a certified gemologist holding FGA and DGA diplomas from GEM-A of the United Kingdom. I have over 10 years of experience in the valuation and trading of precious stones and jewellery. My passion for the world of gemstones led me to the mines of Tanzania, where I worked as a Field Gemologist in Africa.

As an officially recognised member of GEM-A and ICA, I regularly attend seminars and conferences organised by international organisations (CIBJO, ICA), so that my education stays at the forefront of gemological science. I am recognised by leading gemological laboratories as an external collaborator, and in Greece I have worked with major Greek jewellery houses and precious stone dealers.

I have many years of experience as a consultant to major jewellery houses, specialising in the evaluation and sourcing of precious stones. I have worked at renowned gemological laboratories in Europe, gaining international experience and a deep knowledge of the market.
